Your observation day
You’ll start your summer with observation preparation, which functions like a second interview. It will be a chance for us to get to know you better and for you to meet our staff, demonstrate your skills, learn more about the issues, and shadow an experienced staff person.
Tips for a successful observation day
RESEARCH OUR CAMPAIGNS
This summer you’ll work on campaigns with Environment America and PIRG. By checking out their websites, you will be more prepared for day one and will learn a lot about some important environmental issues.
ATTEND A VIRTUAL EVENT
Directors will be working to launch their summer campaigns well ahead of May. Many teams will be holding campaign actions, meetings for new staff, and social events to bring the summer team together.
Attending a virtual event is a great way to learn more about the issues we will work on this summer, and to get to know the directing team.
DRESS FOR THE WEATHER
On your observation day you will be expected to be outside in the field for about six hours, so you should plan accordingly. Check the weather the day before and dress appropriately. Shorts and a t-shirt are best if it’s going to be warm, or a rain jacket or umbrella if it might rain. You should wear comfortable walking shoes, and we strongly recommend bringing a reusable water bottle.
BRING TWO FORMS OF IDENTIFICATION/PROOF OF WORK AUTHORIZATION
On your observation day, you will be expected to fill out forms. In order to complete the I-9 form you will need to provide identification that shows your eligibility to work such as a passport or a drivers license and a Social Security Card. You can find a list of acceptable documents on the USCIS website.
If you can’t find the list, email our central recruitment team at ksultan@fundstaff.org and we can send you the link that lists acceptable work authorization documents.
BRING PROOF OF COVID-19 VACCINATION
Fund for the Public Interest is committed to prioritize the health and safety of our staff and community members. Staff will be required to be fully vaccinated (including booster shots) in order to start work with us, and we will require proof of vaccination on your start date. Accommodations are provided to the extent required by applicable laws.
TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO APPLY!
The best way to prepare for an awesome observation day is to get your friends to come work with us. What could be better than a good summer job gaining marketable experience and having an impact on issues that matter? Doing it all with your friends!
So tell your friends to contact us at summerjobsthatmatter.org because we are looking to hire many qualified candidates.
