What you’ll do
By going door to door five days a week, you’ll work to engage citizens to take action on our campaigns. In addition, with Environment America and PIRG, you'll be offered volunteer training opportunities to work with the media, build coalitions and participate in grassroots advocacy.
A typical day
1:45 pm CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCEMENTS: Updates on campaign events and social events.
2:00 pm ADVANCED TRAINING: Ongoing canvassing practice with a focus on a different fundraising skill each day.
2:30 pm TRAVEL AND LUNCH: Carpool with other staff to the neighborhoods where you’ll be canvassing, stopping for lunch on the way.
3:45 pm CANVASS: Each day, your field manager will provide you with the area where you’ll be working and a set of goals for the day.
9:00 pm WRAP UP: Carpool back to the office and check out. Tally how much money you raised, how many people you spoke to, how many petitions you got signed, etc.
On a typical evening, you can expect to:
Speak with 25 people
Raise $400 to $600
Gather 10 to 15 petition signatures
Get five to eight people involved in the organization

Leadership roles
Staff
We offer leadership positions immediately to our most qualified candidates. However, there is much room for growth in a campaign season. Given our excellent training program, the opportunity to assume more responsibility is always available.
FIELD MANAGER
Field Managers work closely with the Canvass Director to meet the goals of the office, and they have the chance to build even more skills.
In addition to canvassing every day, Field Managers oversee a team of staff and are trained on how to recruit, teach and motivate their team to hit goals. They also have additional responsibilities to map out canvassing territories, keep good financial records, and help carry out other campaign work (such as media, coalition building and petitioning).
AS A FIELD MANAGER YOU WILL:
Be a leader and a role model in the office.
Canvass daily, exceed minimum goals and set a high standard for fundraising, identify members and engage in political activity in the field.
Train, oversee, motivate, evaluate and manage a team of canvassers.
Develop canvassing strategies to meet or exceed the campaign goals in a particular town.
Attend weekly staff meetings and periodic regional trainings and events.
